A Mountain of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of pastimes much better than scanning the updates: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to not arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments surfaced over the break, and if you missed some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
