The Miami Heat put up 86 opening half scores versus the Grizzlies
The Heat earned a decisive 146 to 114 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in their first basketball match since guard Terry Rozier was arrested for alleged illegal sports betting.
Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also detained as part of a extensive FBI investigation into sports betting. Both men contest the claims.
But, the Miami team were focused as they put up 86 opening half points to lead the Grizzlies by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37 year existence.
Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and afterwards stated Rozier had the team's full backing.
"We support him. Complete backing," Adebayo stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is a person who is important to all of us. He has made a beneficial influence on our locker room.
"Our thoughts are with him and our care for him as he faces the situation."
Portland also secured their initial match since the detentions, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the squad to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.
"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."
League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Arrests
Addressing the detentions for the first time, league head Silver said he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.
"Nothing is more critical to the league and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he informed Amazon Prime. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."
Silver also mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he participated for the Charlotte Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.
"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.
"We investigated the matter and were very transparent about it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.
"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.
"Therefore, we've been working with them since then. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.
"And two and a half years later, he has not been found guilty of anything, in fairness to Rozier.
"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and investigating."
